Respiratory Therapy

Welcome to Rowan Respiratory Therapy!

What is a Respiratory Therapist?

Take a deep breath, hold it, and visualize the complex processes going on in your lungs as they take in air and make it available to the systems that support your life and health.

We take this natural bodily function for granted and often are not even aware we are doing it until something interferes. Asthma, emphysema, congestive heart failure, cardiac arrest, traumatic injury, sepsis and COVID-19 are all diseases and conditions that affect breathing. Using oxygen and other specialty gases, ventilators, and other technically sophisticated devices, a Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a specialized healthcare professional and member of the interprofessional healthcare team who helps to diagnose and treat patients with breathing disorders and conditions.

Respiratory therapists can work in doctor’s offices, sleep labs, and in homecare, but most RTs work in the hospital, including emergency rooms, every intensive care area, and with all patient ages. The need for highly skilled RTs is urgent and there are well paying jobs across the region waiting for you.

To breathe is to live. Join our program and start your path to professional practice and leadership in respiratory care.
